"Mondonville’s grands motets are just wonderful ... (Cantate Domino) begins with a well-crafted chorus of which Handel would have been proud ... these performers have a strong record in French Baroque repertoire and maintain their standard here ... as good as one might hope for." - Early Music Review This recording features grand motets by Jean-Joseph Cassanéa de Mondonville, presented by György Vashegyi with a quintet of masterly soloists, the Orfeo Orchestra and the Purcell Choir. Vashegyi, fast making his name in French repertoire, has chosen to showcase the music of this underrated composer who was at the height of his career in Paris in the middle of the 18th century. As well as operas, oratorios and instrumental music, Mondonville wrote grands motets: spectacular religious works which were often performed in the public sphere. The four offered on this double album are fine examples of Mondonville’s art, constantly displaying his taste for virtuosic scoring and tuneful, flowing melodies.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
