Dan Laurin has released roughly 30 albums since 1987, showcasing recorder music that spans the globe and the years, from England to Japan and from the Renaissance to today. This recording takes listeners back to France at an exciting time in musical history. In the early 18th century, when all of the sonatas and suites included here were composed, the system of censorship that ensured that nothing was printed without royal permission (le privilège du roi) was beginning to crumble, at least in the field of music. On this extremely generous programme, Laurin is joined by Anna Paradiso on harpsichord and cellist Domen Marinčič to present a quintessentially French suite by Charles Dieupart, rubbing shoulders with the Italianate Flute Suite No. 3 by Jacques-Martin Hotteterre. The album also provides Laurin with the perfect opportunity to perform, on his own instrument, the most iconic piece of French music from this period: Folie d'Espagne rendered as never heard before, in Laurin's own arrangement for solo recorder.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
