Digital Booklet
The Bavarian Radio Choir under the direction of Howard Arman sings Edward Elgar's song cycle "From the Bavarian Highlands" on this BR-Klassik record in the first version for piano accompaniment. The recording was made live at a concert on October 26, 2019 in the Herkulessaal of the Munich Residenz. A selection of further songs by Edward Elgar on this album were recorded in the BR studio between July and September 2020. Elgar is still little known as a composer of English-language choral songs on mainland Europe; The situation is very different in the United Kingdom: there was and is a lively choir scene that deals primarily with English music - from Purcell and Handel to Hubert Parry, Charles Villiers Stanford and Elgar to Benjamin Britten and current contemporary composers. The present program, compiled and directed by one of the most profound connoisseurs of British choral music, the Englishman Howard Arman, the artistic director of the BR choir, should contribute to this highly appealing music beginning to establish itself in this country as well.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
