Digital Booklet
Paula Diehl created a unique compositional system called Separation in 1978 which she has been developing since. The basic concept behind Separation is the gradual detachment of interlocking perfect fourth intervals through a series of phases. Diehl’s system allows the characteristics of each instrument to shine through in explorations of harmonic content and structure; she has utilized it to create a rich catalogue of works for both small and large ensembles. This double album offers a representative cross section of her music with an emphasis on the last three decades, the period in which her compositional voice flowered most fully. Expansive orchestral scores and more intimate chamber works speak clearly to the singularity of Diehl’s style and provide a nice reminder that it is often those on the periphery, those who are pushed outside instead of welcomed inside, who frequently have the most fascinating things to say.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
