Released on 10-inch vinyl in 1948, Duke Ellington's Liberian Suite was commissioned by the government of Liberia to mark its 100th anniversary. The 25 minute extended work has been remastered for this compilation, which also contains Ellington's entire 1956 concept album A Drum Is a Woman, co-composed by Ellington's partner Billy Strayhorn and adapted for a television special a year later.
