"Four Stars ... the stylistic range is wide: Marttinen speaks with a modernist expressionist accent one moment, shamelessly echoes high Romanticism the next. But the surprise isn’t so much in the eclecticism as in the speed with which the music vaults over stylistic hurdles. The Violin Concerto in particular is delightfully unpredictable, with an atmospheric slow movement ... certainly otherworldly ... a strangely refreshing experience. The performances sound perceptive and suitably zestful and the recordings are warm and clear."
- BBC Music Magazine

Two conductors and two of the leading orchestras from Finland share this album devoted to prolific Finnish composer Tauno Marttinen. One of his most popular works is his Violin Concerto, brilliantly presented here by French master Philippe Graffin together with the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Ari Rasilainen.
Marttinen first intended to be a pianist, only later turning to composing; as a result he wrote several interesting works for the piano, among them four solo concertos, the first of which is played by Dutch pianist Ralph van Raat. The exciting Phantasy, only discovered in 2009, is performed by Finnish cellist Marko Ylönen and the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Hannu lintu.

"I have written music out of my heart and if you play it out of yours, the performance will be a success!"

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
