Cellist and Dutch citizen, but Georgian born, Ketevan Roinishvili (31) welcomes the listener with her debut album Nana with a colourful musical palette that's much folk music based. Music coming from her home country, accompanied by compositions from Turkey, Hungary and a Dutch commissioned piece by Florian Magnus Maier. Roinishvili, with her loyal musical partner Daniël Kool backed up on piano, plays with an intense and unpolished sound not often heard with her Dutch colleagues. The repertoire onNana (Georgian for lullaby) has been played by the cellist from early age, but is probably still a bit less known with the big audience. Cello lover or not, this adventurous album treats you with over an hour of long kept musical secrets from a region not always associated directly with classical music. Like the powerful and politically loaded Four Cities of Fazil Say, the daring Romanian Folk Dances of Bartók, the unreal beauty of 5 Pieces on Folk Themes by Sulkhan Tsintsadze, or the mesmerising Georgian traditional Tsintskaro, performed in an own arrangement together with Nora Fischer.
