Magnetic is Terence Blanchard's 20th career album and his return to Blue Note Records after eight years writing and performing large scale film scores.
Blanchard recorded this album with his acclaimed live band: tenor saxophonist Brice Winston, drummer Kendrick Scott, pianist Fabian Almazan, and 21-year-old bassist Joshua Crumbly. Bassist Ron Carter guests on two of the songs, as does saxophonist Ravi Coltrane. Blanchard composed four tracks here, and the members of his quintet all contributed songs.
