Digital Booklet
"As ever, Suzuki and colleagues are excellent, their collective experience as Bach interpreters enabling them to gel as one. You feel you are ever safe in their hands; but if you think that simply means no surprises, listen to them cut loose in the lusty (Quodlibet) ..." - Gramophone "I've never heard Suzuki and the Bach Collegium having so much fun ... conjuring up all the merriment of slightly inebriated music making (complete with plenty of sound effects). This is undoubtedly the most convincing and enjoyable performance of the Quodlibet I've heard ..." - International Record Review "The blend between sensitive instrumental playing and thoughtful yet never self-important singing is one of the strengths of these performances. They become memorable long after they’re over ... (Suzuki) brings out the character and personality of Bach’s writing ... these four works are so well performed that they will surely delight as much as Bach must have intended them to do." - MusicWeb International The third volume in Bach Collegium Japan’s series of Bach's secular cantatas features two works composed for weddings, yet completely different in character. Of particular interest is the unceremonious Quodlibet (Latin for "what pleases"), probably intended for a private function in Bach’s life. All that exists is a fragment of the piece, in Bach’s own hand: the beginning and ending, including the title page, are missing. Compositions of this kind belong to a tradition which combines quotations from songs, toasts, merchant calls, proverbs and puns and were especially popular at weddings. The programme also includes a birthday cantata written in honour of Prince Leopold, Bach’s employer.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
