With The Colors Of Rhythm, Rodney Kendrick pays a vibrant tribute to his inspirers. The extraordinary pianist, composer, leader and producer shows an open approach to the history of jazz: despite having shown interest, in previous productions, in certain aspects of funk and R'n'B, in The Colors Of Rhythm he shows himself as a "jazz player", hard and pure. His models remain Bud Powell and Randy Weston (one of his mentors), as well as the same ones who inspired Weston: Duke Ellington and Thelonious Monk. In the company of Curtis Lundy on double bass and Cindy Blackman Santana on drums, Rodney Kendrick evokes all these influences in an impulse album! whose program unfolds between original compositions and timeless classics.
