Herbie Hancock was bursting with new ideas after spending five years as a member of the Miles Davis quintet. This 1968 release, considered a classic, was transitional both for Hancock's career and for the state of jazz music in the late 1960s. From this point on, Hancock would start to embrace the world of electronic jazz-funk. Speak Like A Child includes Thad Jones on flugelhorn, Peter Phillips on bass trombone, Jerry Dodgion on flute, plus Ron Carter on bass and Micker Roker on drums.
