We listened to the albums in our living room until we knew every single word of every song. When we were away from home, we sang in the car on long trips, my mother leading the way with her voice, my father whistling along. I was only seven, but I longed to learn how to play these songs on the piano. Fortunately, my piano teacher indulged me, and I began creating my own arrangements by the time I was nine.
