"Four Stars ... the overall effect is intoxicating. But the highlight must be (Olivia) Chaney’s utterly exquisite arrangement and performance of There’s not a Swain on the Plain. I have yet to take this track off 'repeat.'"
- Limelight

"Anyone looking for multiple ways to reinvent Purcell and traditional tunes connected to him will find much to enjoy ... there are a couple of delightful new pieces by Chaney and Ana Silvera ... there’s much cleverness and musical delight here ..."
- The WholeNote

"The composer’s crime? Writing basslines that are just too damn catchy for contemporary musicians to leave alone ... yet for all the riff-like charms of their ground basses, Purcell’s songs have proved surprisingly resistant to reinvention ... so to say that Concerto Caledonia’s album veers between maddening and utterly joyous is to put them well ahead of the curve."
- Gramophone

David McGuinness and his early music/nu-folk group Concerto Caledonia pay tribute to the music of Henry Purcell with this tapestry of arrangements and creative responses which is never less than surprising. Variations by 18th century Scot James Oswald rub shoulders with the Purcell tunes on which they are based, while original songs by Olivia Chaney and Ana Silvera and some electrifying instrumental contributions add to the general air of expectations confounded.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
