"... (the songs are) more candid and direct, with Tunstall resisting the urge to disguise her feelings in metaphors and clever wordplay ... reflect her new lease on life and also how fun much she had making the record in the studio ... the spiritual follow-up to her 2004 debut ..."
- Entertainment Weekly
"This album is the rebuilding of KT Tunstall, in a spiritual sense if not a musical one ... she's kept the distinctive zazzy guitar pop and poetic lyric, imbued with a style of music that skirts the peripheries of folk but remains pop at its core ... there is a laid back, sunsetty shimmer to almost all of the tracks. They are unfailingly positive, optimistic and upbeat ... the kind of mature pop that can only come with experience ..."

KIN marks KT Tunstall's return to the music scene after undergoing some major changes in her life. Two years previously, the Scottish singer-songwriter thought she was done with music. She bought a little house in Venice Beach, California and enrolled in the Sundance Institute’s elite Film Composers Lab, a turning point in her life. Inspired by her West Coast surroundings, a year later KIN was born. Produced by Tony Hoffer (Beck, Belle and Sebastian) and written by Tunstall in Los Angeles, the album exemplifies the very best of guitar pop.
"The feeling that I had was, ‘I need to burn the house down.’ My dad had died, I got divorced, I felt very lost at sea. I didn’t know what I wanted. I’d done everything I thought it wanted and it hadn’t made me happy ... the truth is, I’ve finally made peace with being a pop songwriter. This record was very much embracing my dharma as an artist, which is to write happy songs that are also good."
