Grammy Award nomination - Best Classical Compendium, 2016
Discoveries contains world premiere recordings of works by Ralph Vaughan Williams that offer insight into the composer as a visionary, a romantic, a patriot and a lover. The selections performed here by Martyn Brabbins and the BBC Symphony Orchestra span Williams's entire working career, from the Three Nocturnes of 1908 to the Four Last Songs written some 50 years later. What unites them is that three living composers were involved in realizing them in their present form: Anthony Payne, Adrian Williams and Philip Lane combine an understanding of this music with a deep love of it, so that the additional writing enhances rather than conceals or modifies Williams's originals.
