Finnish conductor Osmo Vänskä and the Lahti Symphony Orchestra have carved out a space as world-renowned Sibelius interpreters, particularly with regards to the composer's lesser known and neglected works. The present album, Seriously Sibelius, continues that tradition with a diverse programme including several world premieres. Bookended by two versions of the In memoriam, Op. 59, the works collected here are often sombre, but are lightened by dashes of gaiety provided by the spinning waltzes of 3 Pieces for Orchestra, Op. 96.
