How did the court musician of the Maharaja, a man called the "Bach of India," and "perhaps the greatest musician in the world" find himself playing to a psychedelic crowd at the Family Dog, a countercultural beacon on the edge of Western civilization, with Owsley mixing the sound? Come take a magical trip with us and find out! The Owsley Stanley Foundation’s sixth release- Bear’s Sonic Journals: That Which Colors the Mind features sarod master, Ali Akbar Khan, accompanied by Indranil Bhattacharya (sitar) and Zakir Hussain (tabla). Ali Akbar Khan was the court musician of the Maharaja of Jodphur. A MacArthur “Genius Grant” recipient, he was identified as a key influence by the Beatles, Grateful Dead, Rolling Stones, and Santana. This release is one of the most evocative recordings of Ali Akbar Khan from the era, due to Owsley’s tapes’ uncanny ability to transport the listener into the room on that night.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
