Digital Booklet
In commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the death of Miguel de Cervantes, La Ritirata and Josetxu Obregón have created this programme by Antonio Caldara and inspired by El ingenioso hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha. Caldara was neither the first nor the last composer to have his artistic ingenuity sparked off by Cervantes’ timeless masterpiece. For the Viennese court he wrote a pair of operas with librettos by GC Pasquini; from these works Obregón, a cellist like Caldara, has put together a selection of arias. Soloists María Espada, Emiliano González Toro and João Fernandes invest their abundant collective artistry in bringing to life a rapid series of Cervantine characters, not least the Spanish knight and his squire. Interspersed between these vocal contributions are instrumental ballets composed for these operas by Nicola Matteis, who also worked at the Viennese court.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
