The environmentally-themed Time / Life marks the final recording that late bassist Charlie Haden made with the band he co-founded with Carla Bley in 1969, the Liberation Music Orchestra. Partially recorded live in Antwerp in 2011, the album was still being finalized while Haden was ill, therefore his friend and fellow bassist Steve Swallow appears on the three studio tracks.
